In the near future, the authors suggest the coexistence of three university models in which the main structuring feature is the academic career, which is now associated to the tenure figure, constitutes one of the most important obstacles faced by organizacional change; however, taking into account the imminent generational relay that universities will experiment in México, in the next decade, substantive transformations will occur driving them into processes of renewal.El futuro de la universidad es una preocupación presente; su análisis y consideración en el debate actual, incitan a imaginar cómo conservará en las próximas décadas su papel de institución trascendente para la sociedad, ante los retos y tendencias que hoy exigen su transformación. Por ello, en este trabajo los autores sugieren la coexistencia en el futuro de tres modelos de universidad, cuyo elemento estructurante más importante es la carrera académica.
