Descripción
Sumario:This article analyzes the weight of race and ethnicity in the structure of wage inequality in the United Stated and Colombia, two different economies and societies that share common labor market issues such as occupational segregation and wage discrimination. Using data from the American Community Survey (2014-2018) and the Encuesta de Calidad de Vida de Colombia (DANE, 2018), this study adjusts linear regression models that allowed for establishing that even though race and ethnicity are classifications of different paradigms—biological and cultural, respectively—, their effect on wages in the two countries is similar, presenting a significant disadvantage for people of African descent.
