Sumario:With the aim of repairing the lacking status of the Spanish secondary literature on Alfred Schutz’s work, this paper intends to systematically review Schutz’s account for the typicality and habituality of everyday cognitive experience. To that end, the author proceeds in three steps. First, he briefly presents the main lines of Schutz’s theoretical project; second, Schutz’s Husserlian account for “typification” as a passive kind of interpretation is examined, as well as his Husserl-based analysis of the structure and genesis of the “stock of knowledge at hand”. Rather than being a mere contribution to the history of sociological ideas, this review should be read as an intent to enrich the theoretical foundation of current research in the field of social sciences.
