Descripción
Sumario:This paper analyses the main mining sites exploited during the XVIII century in the Obispado of Michoacán. This area of the New Spain was divided in two big regions: the one to the south, inhabited by Indians and Spaniards; the one to the north, the area of incursions of the chichimecas tribes. Only the mines permited the colonization of the region. The most important book about the area and the historical epoch analysed is that of José Antonio de Villaseñor y Sánchez entitled Theatro Americano, published in 1748.
