This article analyzes the paratexts of the first four editions of the Argentine novelOperation Massacre by Rodolfo Walsh (1957, 1964, 1969 and 1973). I maintain that, at thebeginning of its writing, in 1956, the text had the form of a journalistic report. Consequently,when it appeared as a printed book, it became a literary text with important paratextual changesin its editions. To study this stage of formation, I propose to conceptualize Operación Masacreas a “Documentary Novel.” Likewise, I characterize the “previous paratexts” of 1956, those thatrepresent, in Genette’s words, the “pre-publication” of the book in various local magazines andin publication prospectuses. Chronologically, I address the paratexts of the first edition, dated1957, written as a journalistic denunciation with evidence and testimonies, which makes useof literary resources, although subordinated to a mainly journalistic function. I examine somechanges in paratexts in the second edition (1964), and then in the third edition of 1969, in whichthe text begins its process as a Documentary Novel within the framework of the validation oftestimony in the Latin American intellectual field until reaching the publication of 1973, beingthe definitive version that we currently know. |

Porconsiguiente, en su aparición como libro impreso fue convirtiéndose en un texto literario conimportantes cambios paratextuales en sus rediciones. Para estudiar esta etapa de formación, propongo conceptualizar a Operación masacre como “novela documental”. Así mismo, caracterizolos “paratextos anteriores” de 1956, aquellos que representan, en palabras de Genette, la “pre-publicación” del libro en diversas revistas locales y en prospectos de la publicación. De maneracronológica, abordo los paratextos de la primera edición, fechada en 1957, escrita como unadenuncia periodística con pruebas y testimonios, que hace uso de recursos literarios, aunque subordinados a una función principalmente periodística. Examino algunos cambios de paratextosen la segunda edición (1964) y luego en la tercera edición de 1969, en la cual el texto comienzasu proceso como novela documental en el marco de la validación del testimonio en el campointelectual latinoamericano hasta llegar a la publicación de1973, siendo la versión definitiva queconocemos actualmente.Este artigo analisa os paratextos das quatro primeiras edições do documentário argentino Operação Massacre, de Rodolfo Walsh (1957, 1964, 1969 e 1973). Para estudar esta etapa de formação, proponho conceituar a OperaciónMasacre como um “romance documental”. Da mesma forma, caracterizo os “paratextos anteriores” de 1956, aqueles que representam, nas palavras de Genette, a “pré-publicação” do livro emdiversas revistas locais e em prospectos de publicação. Cronologicamente, abordo os paratextosda primeira edição, datada de 1957, escrita como uma denúncia jornalística com provas e depoimentos, que faz uso de recursos literários, embora subordinada a uma função principalmentejornalística.
