| Resumo: | In this article I share some reflections on the International Decade for People of African Descent (2015-2024) promulgated by the UN. I link this fact with the celebration of 50 years of the IIA, where I work as a researcher since 2014. Through the combination of these two events, I point out the historical processes that have taken place in the period of the Decade in relation to the visibility of the populations of the African diaspora in the country. I pay special attention to the importance of the anti-racist agenda that accompanies this visibility and the analytical challenges posed to anthropology by the recognition of Afro-Mexicans as a collective subject. All this with the aim of emphasize the debates that the Institute has been able to develop five decades after the emergence of this university entity. |
