Descripción
Sumario:The education of minors in residential care is an area that unfortunately has not been given all the importance it deserves. This article presents a theoretical review on the educational development of these children and adolescents on the international scene. Parting from a description of the educational development of these students in diverse geographical and social contexts, their school disadvantage compared to the rest of the students becomes evident. Subsequently, the causes of this educational mismatch are delved into through a critical analysis of the reasons that harm this group’s school achievements. The article concludes with the main proposals of the scientific literature that have shown its usefulness to ensure that children in residential care reach their maximum educational potential and to minimize the academic damage they suffer due to the institutionalization condition in which they live.
