| Sumario: | This article adds to the extensive research that has been carried out in relation to the Nazi Holocaust, by analysing the notion of the person and the depersonalisation of the human being from a philosophical anthropological perspective. In the first section, a brief historical outline is provided regarding the notion of the person according to the academic disciplines that have dwelled on this concept and a definition is proposed, which takes into account its dual character: body and culture. In the second section, the cognitive, social and political processes through which Jews were stripped of their human condition are analysed in the context of Nazi Germany. The analysis is undertaken by means of references to the testimonies of several victims, with special attention afforded to the account of Primo Levi in his work, If This Is a Man.1 1 Primo Levi, “Si esto es un hombre”, en Trilogía de Auschwitz (Barcelona: El Aleph, 2010). |
