| Sumario: | This article has as the specific objective of looking into the media coverage of the Sitio de Memoria esma’s opening, which was held within the celebration of the 205th anniversary of the May Revolution (Buenos Aires, Argentina). The overall objective is to contribute to the study of the state of social discourse in contemporary Argentina, considering the scenario of competition between the political field and mass media for the public opinion. To this end, we study the coverage by three of the main national newspapers in Argentina: Clarín, La Nación and Página 12. The text considers the reading hypothesis suggested by the media as well as the reading contracts that each of them establishes with their readers. Overall, the results indicate that both Clarín and La Nación suggest an instrumentalization of the inauguration by the government to boost the 2015 election campaign, while Página 12 highlights the popular and ritual dimension of the celebration. |
