In the province of Nayarit, in 2010 there was an increase of 16% compared to 2008 deaths due to suicide, which is a problem that adds to the already complicated perspective of youth life that involves great human and social costs to the country. The objective of the research was to find out about young people who are in upper secondary education, risks associated with the prevalence of suicidal ideation, such as the type of emotional and social adjustment, impulse control, self-esteem and depression. The field research was cross-sectional and descriptive, applying psychometric instruments to a probabilistic sample of 179 students. The students report moderate depression in 26% and 1% severe depression.En México, el suicidio es la segunda causa de muerte entre los jóvenes, sin embargo estas conductas están subsumidas en los datos de muertes violentas. En la provincia de Nayarit, en 2010 se registró un incremento del 16% en comparación a 2008 de muertes por suicidio, por lo que es una problemática que se suma a la ya complicada perspectiva de la vida juvenil que implica grandes costes humanos y sociales al país. El objetivo de la investigación, se centró en conocer de los jóvenes que cursan educación media superior, riesgos que se asocien a la prevalencia de ideación suicida, como el tipo de ajuste emocional y social, control de impulsos, autoestima y depresión. La investigación de campo fue de tipo transversal y descriptivo, aplicándose instrumentos psicométricos a una muestra probabilística de 179 estudiantes.
