Sumario:In Mexico, suicide is the second cause of death among young people, however these behaviors are subsumed in the data of violent deaths. In the province of Nayarit, in 2010 there was an increase of 16% compared to 2008 deaths due to suicide, which is a problem that adds to the already complicated perspective of youth life that involves great human and social costs to the country. The objective of the research was to find out about young people who are in upper secondary education, risks associated with the prevalence of suicidal ideation, such as the type of emotional and social adjustment, impulse control, self-esteem and depression. The field research was cross-sectional and descriptive, applying psychometric instruments to a probabilistic sample of 179 students. The students report moderate depression in 26% and 1% severe depression.
