Resumo:Shrimp fishing in Mexico and the world has been and continues to be an important economic activity, since the use of this resource generates high quality food, jobs and foreign currency. However, due to the fact that shrimp are fished with bottom trawls, a method that is characterized by its low selectivity due to the fact that it retains not only shrimp but a high diversity of non-target species, it has been the subject of controversy and focus of attention. Part of fishing authorities and non-governmental organizations dedicated to the protection of the environment, who have expressed their dissatisfaction and rejection towards this type of activity. The problem is that a minimum part of the capture of non-target species is used and the rest is returned to the sea with doubtful chances of recovery.
