| Sumario: | The tomato is a source of vitamins, minerals and bioactive substances beneficial to human health, has a wide range of use for fresh consumption and is an important raw material for the processing industry. Consequently, in order to increase the productivity of this vegetable, the crop has been involved in substrates, which must have the favorable physicochemical properties for the optimum development of the crops. There are several materials that can be used as substrates, however, it has been proposed the substitution of non-renewable substrates for sustainable materials such as vermicompost, which in tomato, it has been proven that in mixture with other materials influences growth, yield and quality. On the other hand, in the cultivation in substrates, irrigation is one of the most important factors to consider, since based on the physicochemical properties of the growth medium and the water needs of the plant, there is a more efficient use of water and fertilizers. |
