Sumario:This paper inquires into the magnitude, arrangement and changes in the inequality of educational opportunities (DOE, by its acronym in Spanish) in Mexico. The operational definition of DOE is the incidence of socioeconomic origin on the probability of transitioning between educational levels. The data was obtained from INEGI’s Intergenerational Social Mobility Module 2016 and it was analyzed through two binomial logistic regression models. Our main findings were: a) DOE increases as it reaches secondary education levels, reaches its peak in upper secondary and decreases when accessing higher education; b) DOE decreases over time in primary and lower secondary schools, but remains stable in upper secondary school and increases when accessing upper levels of education; c) the persistence / increase of DOE in higher transitions is mainly explained due to the increase in inequality associated with the lack of educational resources in the home of origin.
