Resumo:Epidemiological studies have shown that there is a significant relationship between periodontitis (PO) and single nucleotide (SNP) polymorphism in the -308 (G/A) position of the TNF-A gene, since the G-A transition in the -308 position generates the TNF-1 (G /G) and TNF-2 (G/A 0 A/A) alleles, where the TNF-2 allele is associated with high TNF-a expression and greater susceptibility to PO. The results are still controversial as they vary in the population studied. No such studies have been conducted in Mexico. The general objective of the work was to determine the magnitude and statistical significance of the association of the SNP located in position -308 (G/A) in the region promoting the TNF-A gene with PO in a mestizo/mexican population. Its specific objectives were to examine the presence and degree of PD by measuring probing depth; to establish the frequency of the different variants of the alleles of the TNF-a promoting region (-308) in a group of patients with PO and in a group of healthy patients; and to statistically calculate the association between PO and polymorphism -308 (G/A) of the NTF-A gene.
