The foregoing to observe the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development targets related to goal 6: “Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all”, as well as to goal 7: “Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all”. A review is made of both the experiences of water desalination and the concept of “energy justice”. It concludes noting that desalination at any energy cost and conventional or renewable energy consumption at any socio-environmental cost are not sustainable alternatives.Este trabajo explica la importancia de desalar agua de mar ante la escasez de agua en el mundo. Ya que los métodos para obtener agua desalada normalmente consumen energías convencionales, se plantea que dicha actividad sea con energía justa, es decir, energía asequible, eficiente, sostenible, y renovable. Lo anterior, para cumplir con las metas de la Agenda 2030 para el Desarrollo Sostenible según el objetivo 6: “Garantizar la disponibilidad y la gestión sostenible del agua y el saneamiento para todos”, y el objetivo 7: “Garantizar el acceso a una energía asequible, fiable, sostenible y moderna para todos”. Al efecto, se revisan experiencias de desalación en el mundo y contenidos del concepto de “justicia energética”.
