| Sumario: | The provincial chapters of the New Spain’s mendicant orders, besides being important expressions of the corporate structure in the viceroyalty, represented an arena for the settling of political and economic interested conflicts. Such conflicts involved members of the provinces as well as their outside supporters, clients and patrons. The foregoing turned such meetings into real sounding boards which echoed the social and political situation of its setting and allow us now to be able to understand many of the practices surrounding the corporate vote of the ancient regime. |
