| Sumario: | [EN] Public discussion on immigration is dominated by clichés which impede a calmanalysis of available data and factors affecting the phenomenon of migration. However, only by attending to its complexity can a way be found towards a theoretical understanding, avoiding the dead-ends of discrimination and xenophobia. The reaction to immigrants of western democratic societies shows the ambivalence and falsehoods of its democratic political culture, and therefore the need for political commitment to universal fulfilment of human rights also among ouserlves. |
