The present reflection recovers two passages from La Busca of Pío Baroja in order to analyze its aesthetic value in terms of two characteristic features of the action art; The appropriation of the body as a tool and artistic material, and the defense of the critical and subversive value of urban action. It is a reflection exercise that pierces transversally the discussion about genres and periodization in art, social criticism and aesthetics.El proyecto de investigación en el que se inscribe este artículo, "Recuperación de prácticas pioneras del arte de acción de la vanguardia histórica española y su contribución a la historia de la performance europea", identifica propuestas, gestos y acciones que más de un siglo atrás anticiparon en el contexto español el fenómeno artístico denominado arte de acción o performance. La presente reflexión recupera dos pasajes de La Busca de Pío Baroja con el fin de analizar su valor estético en función de dos rasgos característicos del arte de acción; La apropiación del cuerpo como medio y material artístico, y la defensa del valor crítico y subversivo de la acción urbana.
