During the summer of 1999, in the Balearic Isles a census took place of the breeding colonies of the Monk Parakeet Myiopsitta monachus, commissioned by the Conselleria de Medi Ambient del Govern Balear. Four new colonies were found, apart from those all ready known of . Interviews were made with farmers and people that live near the colonies, and no disturbances were recorded on other birds or any damages noted on the crops. The Monk Parakeet is a species that owed to its great colonizing aptitudes should be controlled periodically, to have an exact number of it population |
