Th is book includes several mentions to caves on the island of Mallorca which are analyzed and contextualized throughout these pages. Th e mentioned caves are basically Coves del Drac, although Coves del Pirata and Cova des Pont are also referred to, all of them located in the municipality of Manacor; about these cavities, some genetic comments are made as well as a few considerations on their speleothems and climatology.[spa] Es indiscutible el papel de Édouard-Alfred Martel como promotor y pionero de la espeleología moderna europea. Dentro de su dilatada obra literaria, merece ser destacado su libro “La Spéléologie ou science des cavernes” (1900), el cual constituye un breve manual sobre la materia realizado con un enfoque sintético y moderno. En dicho libro se incluyen diversas referencias a cuevas de la isla de Mallorca, que son analizadas y contextualizadas a lo largo de estas páginas.
