Sumario:[EN] This article seeks to analyse the contributions made by Professor Julio Aróstegui to the study of the coming of the Spanish Second Republic and its development until the civil war. It will be especially focused on the issues that I consider to be the key points of those contributions: the inclusion of the Republic in the interwar European –and Spanish- crisis, the role played by the socialists, but also that of political violence from its outstanding element, the growth of paramilitary organisations, and Arostegui’s application of the concept of “revolution” to the history of the Spanish Republic. The article ends with some references to the analysis that Julio Aróstegui made about the memory of the SecondRepublic as a political project in nowadays.
