| Sumario: | We present the 95 borrowings that appear in the work Dictons et traditions, written by Fr Alliaume,Scènes de la vie arabeby Fr. David and Le moutonby Fr. Letheilleuxof Spanish, Turkish and French origin. After giving a biographical sketch of the three priestsand outlining the Algerian Arabic variety of the Sahara, we offer a list of all the borrowings classified by categories and note the most relevant features in terms of the morphological adaptation they have undergone. While the bulk of Turkish and French borrowings entered during the periods of occupation of Turkey and France respectively, Spanish borrowings arrived with Moors and Jews from the Iberian Peninsula between the 15th and 17th centuries, although it is also likely that they were introduced through the lingua franca |
