Sumario:This paper deals with the legal recognition of family diversity in a bill of April 2023 that sought to lay the foundations of a new national policy of support and protection for the family, grounded upon its current diversity. After introducing the goals of family policy and how it should be structured in the light of social changes to go beyond the traditional two-parent married family model, the paper examines the bill's proposals on three non-traditional family models: de facto couples, single-parent families and blended families. In all three cases, it is submitted that the bill could not overcome the challenge of establishing an effective legal framework to offer recognition and support to these family realities
