A qualitative questionnaire was distributed to a sample of 83 final-year students at the universities of Oviedo and CastillaLa Mancha. It contained questions regarding the knowledge they had gained about poetry, as well as their self-perception of their training in this field. They are aware of the appeal of poetry for children and they own certain knowledge and abilities regarding poetic education in the preschool classroom. Nevertheless, they declare themselves insecure when it comes to selecting poetic texts, they consider their knowledge of children’s poetry to be insufficient, and most of them have a negative self-perception of their training in poetry didactics. In the light of the results obtained, some proposals are made to improve teacher training so as to guarantee that preschool teachers can effectively bring poetry into their classrooms.[ES] Dada la importancia del género lírico en la educación literaria y la necesidad de una buena formación en poesía infantil y su didáctica para los futuros docentes, se pretende conocer la formación en didáctica de la poesía de los graduados en Maestro de Educación Infantil en dos universidades españolas. Así, se aplicó un cuestionario cualitativo a una muestra de 83 estudiantes de 4º curso de las universidades de Oviedo y Castilla-La Mancha, con preguntas relativas a los conocimientos adquiridos sobre la poesía, y a su autopercepción sobre su formación en este ámbito. Aunque son conscientes del atractivo de la poesía para los niños y poseen ciertos conocimientos y habilidades relativos a la educación poética en el aula de infantil, se declaran inseguros en la selección de textos líricos, consideran insuficiente su conocimiento de la poesía infantil y la mayoría posee una autopercepción negativa sobre su formación en didáctica de la poesía.
