Sumario:The assessment of technical and tactical behaviors in sports during the course of the game is a complex task for teachers. Objective: The objective of the study was to design and validate an ad hoc assessment instrument that would assist Physical Education teachers in assessing student learning in the Kin-ball sport. Methodology: Fifteen expert physical education teachers and three experts from the Spanish Kin-Ball Association participated in the validation of the instrument, and 38 students from Compulsory Secondary Education participated in the practical application of the instrument. Intraclass Correlation Coefficients (ICC) and Cronbach's a were calculated for validation, while Pearson's correlation coefficient and Student's t test for independent samples were used for practical application of the instrument. Results: All calculated ICCs were significant (p < 0.001) and their values ranged from 0.953 to 0.992. Cronbach's a was very high for all variables analyzed. Furthermore, it was found that the students' performances using the time-sampling technique (5 minutes of offensive phase and 5 minutes of defensive phase for each team) were similar to those achieved during the entire match (full match = 6.3 ± 0.9 vs. 5 minutes = 6.5 ± 0.9; P = 0.553). Conclusion: An assessment tool has been presented that allows for simple, accurate, and effective categorization of playing behaviors in an alternative sport such as Kin-ball.
