Ach. thalli are subjected to the activity oía lipoxygenase enzyme (Linoleate : oxygen oxidoreductase, EC 1.13.11.12) which usually takes place in phycobiont cells. This activity increases when exposed to light for a period of 9 hours. In such incubation conditions, the dimeric partióles on the EF face of the phycobiont plasmalemma are splitted by which the particle size is reduced while their distribution frequency increases.We are very grateful to Mr F.
