Their increasingly presence on the web gave the Spanish CSIC the starting point to investigate how the academic, the research activity and scientific publication lead by the medical group is reflected in this medium. Using cybermetric quantitative techniques has been developed an initial ranking of hospitals, worldwide coverage on the web (http://hospitals.webometrics.info). The study, conducted on a population of more than 17,000 hospitals, shows the first thousand centres positioned depending on the WR. It highlights the American leadership followed by the European, and the unfavourable location of Spanish centres respect them. On the other hand, it is remarkable the insufficient broadcasted character of scientific publishing on the Internet, although the Universitary hospitals are the most active on this matter and therefore placed first. The ranking has been built through the collation of the websites of health centres throughout the major search engines (Google, Yahoo! Search, Live Search and Exalead). This comparison has been based of two key indexes: the visibility of web sites and the volume of published information. This paper shows the pattern followed for the development and publication.[ES] Para muchas instituciones sociales, entre las que se encuentran los hospitales, la Web se ha convertido en una interesante herramienta de trabajo. Esta presencia en la Web de las instituciones sanitarias ha llevado a investigar al Laboratorio de Cibermetría del CSIC cómo se refleja la actividad investigadora, académica y de publicación científica por parte del colectivo médico en este medio. Mediante el uso de técnicas cuantitativas cibermétricas se ha elaborado un primer ranking de hospitales, de cobertura mundial, en la web (http://hospitals.webometrics.info). El estudio, realizado sobre una población de más de 17.000 centros hospitalarios, muestra los mil primeros centros posicionados en función del WR. En él se pone de manifiesto el liderazgo de los hospitales estadounidenses seguidos de los europeos, y la ubicación poco favorable de los centros hospitalarios españoles tanto en el ámbito mundial y como en el europeo. Por otro lado, ha hecho notorio el insuficiente carácter difusor de la publicación científica en Internet que acoge al colectivo médico, si bien son los hospitales universitarios los más activos en este sentido y por ello los primeros posicionados. El ranking se ha construido gracias al cotejo de las páginas web de los centros sanitarios en los principales buscadores (Google, Yahoo! Search, Live Search y Exalead). Esta comparación se ha realizado en función de dos índices fundamentales: la visibilidad de las páginas web y el volumen de información publicada.
