In this respect, we analyzed walking times of less than 10 minutes, a specific kind of trip that takes place on a neighbourhood scale, from one of the major mobility surveys in Spain. By analyzing people's mobility patterns, we obtain a more accurate approach to proximity and inner-neighbourhood dynamics. The analysis focuses on the frequency and purpose of these short walking trips, along with the urban settings that foster them. This study also evaluates how proximity trips are intimately related with personal travel purposes and how they are unequally distributed throughout the city. The data also show how, once a certain minimum level of density is achieved, income and sociodemographic factors ultimately determine the use of proximity.
