| Resumo: | [EN] Élise Turcotte is a contemporary Quebec writer who has obtained many literary awards. In the novel L’île de la merci (1997), Turcotte describes the life of a family characterized by a lack of communication and by the death of one of its members. This study aims to highlight the importance of water in this novel. It will show how water images are used in the narrative to emphasise the evolution of the protagonist and the tensions among the characters. We will particularly analyse the symbolism of the island and the relationship between the images of water, sexuality and death |
