| Resumo: | [EN] The work of the Guadeloupean author Simone Schwarz-Bart is an immersion in the Creole culture. This culture is mostly beliefs and practises that are animists. The character’s link to nature and elements are exacerbated and especially about water. Water is a conducting entity we can find through all her writing and just as life it can be either beautiful or dark. It represents the spiritual journey from maternal womb to invisible spirits from beyond. The way through real life and supernatural she incarnates is the foundation of Antillean imaginary. It is with a poetic writing that Simone Schwarz-Bart makes her characters sail on waters sometimes clear sometimes murky but as unpredictables as savings. Water is a divine reflection of the body and mind that keep in depths all characters memories and allows their spiritual rebirth. Just as fetishists or religious beliefs from the Creole culture there is a central place for water rituals. Simone Schwarz-Bart’s work takes much from an insular lifestyle and orality. Her characters often merge with aquatic dimension and exotic environment but always through water. Water seems as liquid as natural as odorless and colorless as a symbolic element and gets over words and minds. |
