In Spain, 27.2% of females over 15 smoke, being of special concern prevalence rates observed in youngsters of 16-24 years old. 42.7 of females are smokers, 2 points above males. The outcomes of a sample composed of 675 subjects of both sexes aged 18-52 are presented in this paper. They are students of the Teacher Training College of the ULPGC. The aim of this research was to discover students' attitudes towards smoking, especially women's. The information collected suggests that the perception that students have towards smoking is basically negative although women have a more positive perception than men.El tabaquismo, en la actualidad, es un problema latente en la sociedad. Entre lasmujeres representa un problema muy importante ya que su prevalencia ha idoaumentando en los últimos años tanto en los países desarrollados como en aque-llos en vías de desarrollo. En nuestro país fuman actualmente un 27.2% de las muje-res mayores de 15 años. Son especialmente preocupantes las tasas de prevalenciaobservadas en jóvenes de 16 a 24 años, situándose en el caso de las mujeres en un42.7%, 2 puntos por encima de los varones. Se presentan en este estudio los resultados de una investigación realizada conuna muestra de 675 sujetos de ambos géneros, comprendidos entre los 18 y 52 añosde edad, estudiantes de la Facultad de Formación del Profesorado de la ULPGC. Elobjetivo de este estudio fue conocer la actitud de un grupo de estudiantes frente altabaquismo, específicamente, conocer la actitud de la mujer ante el tabaquismo ysaber si se dan diferencias en la opinión por razón del género. La información recogida indica que los estudiantes de la Facultad de Formacióndel Profesorado de la ULPGC, tienen una percepción negativa hacia el tabaquismo.No obstante, admiten la influencia del cigarro en las personas.
