Sumario:[eng] The knowledge on vertebrate paleontology of the Balearic Islands has been improved thanks to the exploration, excavation and study of new deposits during the last 16 years. Mallorcan deposits as Caló d’en Rafelino, Cova des Pas de Vallgornera, Cova Estreta or Cova des Moro, or Menorcan deposits located at the area of Punta Nati, have furnished important paleontological materials that allowed, among others, to understand some of the most enigmatic topics of the Balearic paleozoogeography as well as the analysis of specific aspects of emblematic fossil species as Myotragus balearicus. Thus, the most important advances have been the improvement of the knowledge of the Pliocene faunal framework of Mallorca (Myotragus fauna) and Menorca (Nuralagus fauna), the relationship of these faunal assemblages, and the study of several aspects of M. balearicus regarding its biology (physiology, brain and sense organ anatomy, body weight estimates, locomotion, etc.) and extinction (chronology and causes). Additionally, up-to-date, three new genera, eight new species and a new ichnospecie of terrestrial or flying vertebrates have been described.
