Descripción
Sumario:[EN] The aim of this article is to study the assimilations of heterosyllabic contiguous consonants, specifically, the most frequent and characteristic of Spanish: /mb/ > /m/. The lexicon is an important factor, since not all words susceptible to undergoing this phonetic process were affected. The geography and chronology of the variation is not the same in all cases, nor is the variant that managed to prevail. Based on the data provided by the Corpus Histórico del Español Norteño (CORHEN), we establish the geography and chronology of the variation of the different words with etymological /mb/. These data allow us to review discussed issues, such as the focus of the variation, and the possible reasons that explain the differences found.
