This work explores the different perspectives and emotions aroused in individuals and communities through two printed sources: the Gaceta de Madrid, which provided information to the metropolis and overseas territories from the foreign press, and the singular work, halfway between reality and fiction, of an American woman married to a French landowner and his vain attempt to recover property during the “time of illusion” generated by Leclerc.[ES] La llegada de las tropas francesas al mando de Leclerc supuso una breve etapa de aparente tranquilidad y confianza para la política y geoestrategia imperial caribeña así como para los habitantes -blancos en su mayoría- de Saint Domingue huidos de la situación de violencia e incertidumbre quienes vislumbraron la esperanza del regreso.
