Sumario:[EN] The arrival of French troops under Leclerc’s command marked a brief period of apparent calm and confidence for Caribbean imperial politics and geoestrategy, as well as for the mostly white inhabitants of Saint-Domingue, fleeing violence and uncertainty, who glimpsed the hope of return. This work explores the different perspectives and emotions aroused in individuals and communities through two printed sources: the Gaceta de Madrid, which provided information to the metropolis and overseas territories from the foreign press, and the singular work, halfway between reality and fiction, of an American woman married to a French landowner and his vain attempt to recover property during the “time of illusion” generated by Leclerc.
