Sumario:Approaches to comprehensive teaching of sports have had a big impact during the last decades. The most known approach is the Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) of Bunker and Thorpe (1982), although in different contexts other approaches have been developed. This paper presents a brief analysis of the main features of the TGfU, as well as the Pedagogical Models of Tactical-Decision (PMT-D) (Gréhaigne, Wallian and Godbout, 2005) developed in France, and the Integrated Technique-Tactical Model (IT-TM) (López-Ros and Castejón, 1998a, 1998b) originated in Spain. We focus the attention on the common aspects of these three approaches, revising in depth the methodological principles of Exaggeration and Simplification, and the use of semiotic devices. Finally, we highlight some existing differences between the three approaches in relation to methodological aspects with the aim of promoting their educational application
