MEDIA LITERACY AND CRITICAL THINKING
Descripción
Sumario:This chapter outlines the importance of adapting education to a highly digitised world, especially in teaching English as a foreign language (EFL). It highlights the evolution of digital technology over the past 20–30 years, emphasising the need for educators to innovate and address the needs of "digital native" students. Key questions include whether students truly embody the digital native concept and if educators are effectively innovating.Challenges and opportunities for EFL teachers are identified, along with a call for teachers to help students navigate a media-saturated society. The chapter explores these issues by presenting academic insights, identifying students needs, and proposing Media Literacy as the ideal tool to integrate into EFL classrooms. These proposals aim to foster English learning through relatable content, encourage critical thinking, and equip students with skills to critically assess the overwhelming flow of media information, ultimately aiding their development and preparation for adulthood.
