Descripción
Sumario:The present study assesses different hormonal treatments for the induction of gonadal maturation and spawning in female wild European eels Anguilla anguilla L., 1758. One of the groups received weekly injections of salmon pituitary extract and human chorionic gonadotropin, while a second group received the same treatment together with pymozide. Although previous studies had reported spontaneous release of oocytes, in the present study, during the final phases of oocyte development, a dose of 17.20β-dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one (17.20βP) was used to induce the first controlled spawning in A. anguilla. After 12-14 weeks of treatment, 5 spawns were obtained. Treatments also caused morphological changes, such as progressively darker coloration and increase in eye diameter.
