| Sumario: | The Historical Archive of the Demarcation of Girona of the College of Architects of Catalonia keeps two little known photographic funds, which testify to the interest in the discovery of the country, and especially in the discovery of the Pyrenees, which has been manifested in Catalonia since the beginning of the xx century. We refer to the funds of the amateur photographer from Barcelona Joan Xicart Rigual (1878-1954) and the funds of the noucentista architect from Girona Rafael Masó Valentí (1880-1935). Both funds are wide and thematically rich, with 1,358 and 1,394 stereoscopic plates, respectively, which reveal the interests of the photographers and the interests of the time they lived in. In both cases the discovery of the country and the recovery of the heritage constitute the main theme. There are also images of Ripoll, Núria, Sant Pere de Rodes, Sant Miquel de Cuixà, etc. In the case of Rafael Masó, his interest in architecture guides his frequent excursions through Catalonia, with the aim of getting to know and documenting the Catalan heritage and rediscovering a medieval and mystic past, symbolized by the recovery of the Romanesque as national art typical of that time. In the case of Xicart, member of the Hiking Centre of Catalonia, apart from his monumental sets, photographs of the main peaks of the Pyrenees are frequent. However, his desire for discovery goes beyond our borders, encouraging him to go through the Alpine routes, recently established for hiking, and taking photographs of European cities, like Berlin or Paris, authentic symbols of modernity |
