Descripción
Sumario:[EN] !e acquisition of nationality has been considered for a long time the main channel to achieve full social integration. More recently, nationality acquisition in the country of residence has been interpreted as related to instrumental reasons disconnected from any sense of belonging. !e goal of this chapter is to analyze the Spanish citizenship regime taking into account the relationship between strategic motivations and sense of belonging. !is chapter explores the meaning of citizenship at an individual level and identifies two dimensions of citizenship: a practical one linked to the desire of achieving full access to rights and an affective one linked to the sense belonging, both to the country of origin and of residence. !e results show that strategic motivations and sense of belonging are not mutually exclusive but intrinsically interconnected factors.
