| Resumo: | [EN] This article argues that immersion is no longer the only model of interaction with the virtual world in digital games, due to the fact that hybrid spaces and pervasive computation have blurred the boundaries between the physical and the virtual space, as well as game and life. The player does not enter the virtual content, instead, it emerges to her life and everyday space. This can be defined as an experience of emersion, as opposed to the metaphor of immersion, suitable when the boundaries were more clear. First, a theoretical framework is built to analyze the emersion as the change of direction in the game's content from the inside (virtual) to the outside (physical). Second, the features that are common to emersive games are addressed: gamec life integration, eversion and the potential for transforming. Finally, those features are discussed in digital games that can be classified as emersive. This paper proposes an original and unifying perspective to examine an increasingly common media phenomenon that is present in serious games, gamification and Mixed Reality games, among others. |
