Basada en l’experiència de la pràctica artística, la recerca explora la capacitat de reutilització que els artistes fan dels materials o elements sobrants que es produeixen en disciplines com la pintura, l’escultura, la fotografia o l’art digital, bé sigui reincorporant-los en el mateix procés creatiu. En aquest sentit, es proposa el concepte de residu artístic i s’analitzen les seves utilitats, tipologies i significats en l’àmbit de les arts visuals i en una part del context de l’art con- temporani de l’última dècada. Si bé generalment el residu artístic es pot produir involuntàriament, també sembla que alguns artistes el provoquin, i es crea així el fenomen del que anomeno residualitat: un conjunt d’operacions que relaciona el seu origen amb la seva utilitat en el camp de l’art. En la investigació s’estableixen connexions entre diferents idees provinents de la teoria de l’art i el camp del pensament filosòfic, proposant possibles connotacions que transcendeixin la materialitat de l’objecte d’estudi. Aquestes reflexions permeten conceptualitzar la imperfecció, l’error, l’accident, el rebuig, el descart, l’empremta i l’excedent del procés creatiu com un residu del procés creatiu, el qual, de vegades, es manifesta com un element present en el resultat final de l’obra. Finalment, la tesi inclou una recerca historiogràfica que abasta des de les avantguardes del segle xx fins a l’entrada de la postmodernitat, amb l’objectiu de veure l’evolució i incidència del residu artístic en la creació contemporània. A més, també es presenta un breu estudi sobre la brossa i la deixalla en l’actualitat, abordant la seva problemàtica mediambiental des de la perspectiva de la investigació artística contemporània. No obstant, cal subratllar que aquesta tesi no se centra en la branca del reciclatge artístic, sinó que es proposa explorar les possibles relacions entre el residu artístic i aquestes qüestions, mantenint un enfocament diferent en el seu tractament i anàlisi.[eng] The thesis investigates the waste generated during artistic creation processes, considering it as the central object of study. Based on the experience of artistic practice, the research explores the artists’ ability to reuse leftover materials or elements produced in disciplines such as painting, sculpture, photography, or digital art, either by reintegrating them into the same creative process. In this regard, the concept of ‘artistic waste’ is proposed, and its uses, typologies, and meanings are analyzed within the field of visual arts and a part of the context of contemporary art in the last decade. While artistic waste is generally produced unintentionally, it also seems that some artists provoke it, thus creating the phenomenon I refer to as residuality: a set of operations that connects its origin with its utility in the field of art. The research establishes connections between various ideas from art theory and the field of philosophical thought, proposing possible connotations that transcend the materiality of the object of study. These reflections allow for the conceptualization of imperfection, error, accident, rejection, discard, trace, and surplus from the creative process as a form of waste, which, on occasion, manifests as elements present in the final outcome of the work. Finally, the thesis includes a historiographical investigation spanning from the avant-garde movements of the 20th century to the advent of postmodernity, with the aim of observing the evolution and impact of artistic waste in contemporary creation. It also includes a brief study on garbage and waste today, addressing their environmental issues from the perspective of contemporary artistic research.
