The upper alteration defines the upper boundary of Neogene record in the basin and is related to the extensive Plio-Pleistocene pediment, which bevels the Neogene serie from the borders to the centre of the basinSe analizan las dos alteraciones localizadas dentro y en la cima del Mioceno tardío en la región centro-oriental de la cuenca del Duero. Se tratan cuestiones presentadas sobre el significado estratigráfico. La alteración más baja afecta a la cima de la unidad de margas y yeso (U.3.), la cual está relacionada con mayores cambios paleogeográficos hacia condiciones menos evaporíticas.
