Descripción
Sumario:[EN] Cullera Estany is an estuary with great ecological importance, very useful for men because it constitutes a unique coastal environment and it acts as a drainage area in flooding times. Men’s action have transformed the Estany over the years. Also is important to know that it is located in a highly intensified agricultural and tourist area in Valencia. It has connections with the sea, bringing about marine intrusion and generating a freshwater interface. Four sampling campaigns (representing a full annual cycle) were carried out during 2010 in order to check the quality of the water for the Water Framework Directive objectives fulfilment. One of the main purpose of this master thesis is to understand the hydrologic, physicchemical and biological functioning of the system, as well as the relationship between physical, chemical and biological variables. In order to accomplish this, the composition of phytoplankton has been analyzed and its relationship with nutrient content through an Analysis of Redundancy has been checked. With the aim of evaluate the environmental management on the area, the importance of the Estany for biodiversity has been studied as well as the legal framework governing in this area of high interest. The current measures to improve the ecological quality of the Estany have been identified, and the possible rehabilitation strategies have been evaluated. These strategies could be carried out for the recovery of an excessively damaged spot where it is evident the necesity of an intervention in short time
