Its formation is estimated to have started about 15 million years ago by phreatic dissolution processes, taking advantage of the bedding planes and an important fault that affected the Jurassic rocks. It has undergone breakdown and readjustments of the vaults and important chemical cave deposits to reach its current state. The cave is of great interest for its spectacular and variegated speleothems. Among other interesting aspects, it has an unusually large number of shields, and several paleolevels of phreatic overgrowths on speleothems (POS) that recently have been dated as Upper Miocene and Pliocene. A new topographic survey is presented in this article that includes all the areas known to date, comprising the Cova Nova, adding as well a detailed description of the whole cave complex. 4, pp. 47-74All rights reservedinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccesspapersSocietatEspeleologica:PapersSEB_2021vol004p0472026-05-28T12:40:11Z
