Sumario:Overshadowed by the predominance of political and economic relations within the study of EU-China bilateral relations, cultural relations remain to be an underrepresented topic when exploring the intricacies of sino-european interactions. Under the hypothesis that the particularities of individual Member States' bilateral relations, as well as the divergent political systems and the difficult administrative environment of China highly condition a common European approach to cultural relations, this paper aims at providing both policy-makers and cultural practitioners on the ground a resource to understand the important role that the cultural dimension of international relations plays in fostering intercultural dialogue and understanding in an age of competition. Reflecting on future scenarios dependent on the development of global trends, it calls for an enhanced coordination between European actors, the creation of a common framework for expertise building, and a very mindful approach to the way in which European values are projected.
