| Sumario: | Introduction: Getting a proper communication with the patient should be a priority of professionals working in the health field, as is the case of Social Workers and Nurses. This strategy favors a better approach to the health problem and the different interventions needed to give a good respond to the patient. Sometimes this process is difficult, especially when it comes from communicating bad news, and among the factors that influence are both personal and situational aspects. Objectives: Identify the methods used by professionals when communicating bad news. To assess the effectiveness thereof and finally propose possible improvement actions. Methodology: Bibliographic review of publications from 1998 to 2015. Results: Analysis of a total of 20 articles. The professionals of the social work and nursing are doing more and more the communication of bad news, although it is the doctors who usually are in charge of this task. There are protocols of action ("SPIKES" and "ABCDE") that facilitate this communicative work. Discussion: The communication of bad news is an almost exclusive task of doctors, although the coexistence of patients and relatives with social work professionals and nursing makes them gradually incorporate this intervention. This may increase the transmission of the discourse and, in a complementary way, to improve the multidisciplinary approach to the problem. |
