At the same time that the entry of weapons was facilitated for the "defense of those parts" and it was necessary to arm the like-minded, there were restrictions for certain segments of the population (indians, blacks, and mulattoes). In this paper, norms and practices of arms control are addressed in societies as unequal as the slave societies of the Hispanic Antilles, in which the fear of revolts by subordinates, slaves or free of color, was installed, but at the same time lived with them and were necessary to maintain order[ES] Desde los inicios de la presencia española en América, el control sobre la posesión de armas fue un asunto a tratar a partir de la experiencia peninsular. Al mismo tiempo que se facilitó la entrada de armas para “la defensa de aquellas partes” y fue necesario armar a los afines, hubo restricciones para determinados segmentos de población (indios, negros y mulatos). En esta ponencia se abordan normas y prácticas de control de las armas en sociedades tan desiguales como las sociedades esclavistas de las Antillas hispanas, en las que se instaló el temor a las revueltas de los subordinados, esclavos o libres de color, pero que al mismo tiempo se convivía con ellos y eran necesarios para mantener el orden.Este trabajo ha sido realizado en el marco de dos proyectos: Connected Worlds: The Caribbean, Origin of Modern World.
