Sumario:The composition of the amphipod fauna in shallow waters off the Venezuelan northeastern coast (Anzoátegui, Sucre and Nueva Esparta states) was examined by sampling 81 locations which included different microhabitats and a bathymetric gradient from the intertidal zone to a depth of 81 m. More than 11 620 specimens were identified, belonging to three suborders (Gammaridea, Caprellidea and Hyperiidea), 28 families, 51 genera, and 80 species. Fourteen species are new records for Venezuelan marine waters: Amphithoe longimana Smith, 1873; Amphithoe valida Smith, 1873; Bemlos foresti (Mateus and Mateus, 1966); Colomastix camura LeCroy, 1995; Corophium lacustre Vanhöffen, 1911; Pedicorophium laminosum (Pearse, 1912); Eusiroides monoculoides (Haswell, 1879); Pontogeneia bartschi Shoemaker, 1948; Gammaropsis arawakia Thomas and Barnard, 1989; Photis melanica (McKinney, 1980); Cerapus cudjoe Lowry and Thomas, 1991; Erichtonius rubricornis (Stimpson, 1853); Elasmopus pectenicrus (Bate, 1862), and Tiron bellairsi Just, 1981.
